Wireless Transit Time River Monitoring
For decades, precise river gauging meant one thing: complex, costly, and disruptive cable installations across the water. That era is over. NIVUS introduces Wireless Transit Time technology, a revolutionary, cableless measuring solution for real-time surface water flow monitoring.
Measure. Monitor. Repeat.
For better insights, better decision-making and better process performance.

- Drought Control & Waterway Monitoring: Manage water resources effectively during critical low-flow periods.
The High Cost of Old Technology
Traditional methods of river flow measurement are holding you back. They require extensive civil works, such as running armored cables in trenches across riverbeds. This approach is not only incredibly expensive (often several 100K €), but it also limits your options. Measurement sites are chosen based on convenience, like an existing bridge, not on what is best from a hydrometric standpoint. This compromise limits data quality and inflates budgets.

Drastic Cost Savings
Eliminate the immense expense of civil works and underwater cable installation. The installation cost and maintenance regimes are substantially reduced.
Ultimate Site Flexibility
Choose measurement sites based purely on hydraulic considerations, not existing infrastructure. Install a precise river gauge wherever you need it most.
Access Unmeasurable Sites
Large, remote, or protected river systems are now accessible, providing critical real-time flow data for better decision-making.
Superior Accuracy
With up to 32 measurement paths, our system delivers highly precise and reliable river flow monitoring data, compliant with ISO 6416.
Minimal Environmental Impact
Avoid trenching and other disruptive construction in sensitive river ecosystems. Our system requires minimal intervention and reduced material usage.
Fully Self-Sufficient
Designed for remote deployment, the system can be powered by solar panels and batteries, ensuring continuous monitoring without reliance on the grid.

Simple, Robust and Highly Accurate
The principle is as powerful as it is simple. Ultrasonic sensors are placed on opposite banks of the river. They send signals back and forth, and the system measures the 'time of flight'. The difference in time between the upstream and downstream signals allows for a precise calculation of the water's velocity. By using multiple paths (up to 32), we create a detailed velocity profile for exceptional accuracy. A master and slave unit, synchronized via GPS, manage the communication wirelessly, making the entire system robust and without the need of cables across the river.
The System
The NivuFlow 650 W measuring system is ISO 6416, IEC 60041 and ISO 748 compliant and has been specially developed for flow measurement in canals and surface waters. Up to 32 measurement paths ensure maximum accuracy. A selection of sensor designs and installation accessories offers a wide range of options for optimised measurement at every measurement point.
